Let's see below what are the main substances that greatly contribute to the yellowing of our teeth;

tobacco, drugs, caffeine, red wine, chocolate, soy, blueberries, licorice.

The role of the dental hygienist is also to provide the right instructions to the patient to perform home oral hygiene to have clean teeth and a healthy mouth:

Brush your teeth after each meal for about 3 minutes, it is important to brush your teeth correctly with small movements, from bottom to top in the lower arch and from top to bottom in the upper arch, first externally and then internally, avoid horizontal movements as they do not remove, but irreversibly damage the gum with gingival recessions and in cases of aggressive brushing also abrasions of the enamel

How is dental hygiene performed?

The professional teeth cleaning treatment is performed with a specific tool,  scaler  equipped with a metal tip made vibrating thanks to the emission of ultrasounds.

The passage of the scaler allows you to remove tartar from the dental walls, even from those normally not reachable during daily home oral hygiene.

The treatment is completed with the passage of a rotating brush , which distributes a specific fluorine-based paste on the teeth: all to polish any roughness of the enamel layer.

What is dental hygiene for?

Dental hygiene fundamentally completes daily home oral hygiene. Taking care of your mouth every day, in fact, is necessary, but it is not enough.

Dental hygiene carried out by a hygienist every 6-12 months (depending on each individual patient) allows you to reach the areas less accessible with household tools (toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and brush) and to thoroughly remove plaque, tartar and bacteria.

The regularity of dental hygiene treatments prevents the formation of caries and all its consequences: from simple inflammations of the gums to the most serious cases of pyorrhea, passing through periodontitis.

How to clean dental implants so as not to risk losing them

In fact, implants on implants need even more care than natural teeth. This is because bacteria can easily settle between the tissues surrounding the implants and cause serious pathologies.

Always perform excellent home oral hygiene to maintain perfect oral hygiene and thus avoid losing your implants prematurely. The tools needed to clean the implants are; toothbrush, dental floss, Super Floss, interdental brush, water jet

Toothbrush

Albania Dent always advises his patients to prefer the electric toothbrush to the manual one.

Remember to brush your prosthesis on implants with the electric toothbrush every day, 3 times a day.

Start by cleaning the outer surface of your teeth so as to ensure a well-groomed appearance of your teeth, then focus on the most important area for the maintenance of the prosthesis, which is the border point between it and the gum. This is in fact the area where the bacteria are most aggressive, because they try to penetrate the tissues around the implant and damage the underlying bone.

Super Floss is a specific floss for cleaning the spaces between teeth that are joined together. For example, if you have a bridge, normal dental floss is not good, because you cannot pass it between tooth and tooth. On the other hand, Super Floss can be used as a needle and easily passed under the bridge between the teeth.

Its spongy part serves to embrace the plant and clean all the spaces present. When you use it - at least once a day - always be careful not to irritate the gum, so as not to cause inflammation that can lead to gingivitis.

The brush is indicated for cleaning prostheses on implants that have interdental spaces large enough to pass this instrument without traumatizing the gum. So the most suitable model for you is the one that enters the space between the teeth without causing pain or bleeding from trauma.

The movement to be made is from inside to outside: both from the outside towards the inside of the teeth, and from the inside towards the outside. As with the toothbrush, you should change the brush as soon as it shows the first signs of wear, which is when the core inside the tool loses stiffness.

Water flosser

The water jet is a device that uses a jet of water to remove food debris and plaque that other tools have failed to clear. Here's how to use it well:

directs the jet at an angle of 45 degrees to the tooth;

do not exert excessive pressure;

directs the jet from the bottom up, to avoid gum trauma.

Finally, do not add mouthwash to the water, because it inhibits its action: it is best to first clean with the water jet with cold or lukewarm water and then rinse your mouth with the mouthwash.

There are basically remedies to restore color and shine to our teeth. Then there are the so-called grandmother's remedies, able to remove stains from our teeth. However, we must be careful not to use too aggressive methods that could damage them. Among the most effective home remedies we remember:

  - The sage. It whitens, disinfects and has no contraindications. Take a fresh sage leaf and pass it, with the index finger, gently on the teeth with small circulatory movements. To be done no more than twice a week.

  - The strawberry. It reduces stains and makes your teeth smoother. Cut a strawberry in half and pass it over your teeth for a few minutes. Then rinse your mouth thoroughly to remove residues. To be done no more than twice a week

  - Sodium bicarbonate. It is an excellent whitener but if used improperly it can erode tooth enamel because it is highly abrasive. Dilute a spoonful of it in a glass of water and rinse your teeth. To be done no more than twice a month.

  - Apple cider vinegar. It has an antibacterial action and makes the teeth whiter. Dilute a tablespoon in half a glass of water and rinse.
